New Location Extends Services to Vets Looking for Dignity and Gainful Employment
VAN NUYS, CA — The Salvation Army Haven’s Veterans Employment Services Program hosted an Opening Celebration for its new Van Nuys service last Friday. The Haven’s Veterans Employment Services Program delivers services such as resume writing, interview skills training, targeted job search assistance and more to veterans.
The new Van Nuys service location began delivering much needed services to American Veterans looking for work on June 1, 2014 at The Salvation Army San Fernando Corps, 14917 Victory Blvd. Van Nuys. Since 2009, The Salvation Army Haven Veterans Employment Services Program has provided employment services to the men and women who have worn our country’s uniform. Such services as resume writing, interview skills training and targeted job search are just some of the help veterans find free of charge at The Haven.
Through the support of such funders as Activision Call of Duty Endowment, Carl and Roberta Deutch Foundation and the Department of Labor, The Salvation Army Haven program has been empowered to extend services to more veterans through this new service branch location in Van Nuys. Through this office a diverse population of veterans with significant civilian work experience and those with very limited work outside the military will find vital services that will set them up for success in a tough and competitive job market. The Salvation Army Haven program, in tandem with these constant corporate partners have together, achieved a more than 70 percent employment success rate.
The Salvation Army Haven Veterans Employment Services Program has been providing quality employment services exclusively to unemployed and underemployed Veterans since 2009. In a very competitive job market, it helps veterans leverage their veteran status, passions and skills to stand out in front of HR recruiters and hiring managers. The Haven works in partnership with veteran clients, who together have achieved employment success – over 70 percent of the program’s clients have obtained jobs or better jobs.
Clients are diverse, ranging from recently returning to those being out of the service for longer periods of time; veterans of all ranks and MOS; veterans with no civilian work experience to veterans with significant civilian work experience; veterans with no or some higher education to veterans with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
Since each veteran is unique, the Haven takes a customized approach to each veteran that it serves by providing customized job preparation services matched to the veteran’s needs, interests and qualifications. Services include resume enhancement, cover letter or employment application assistance, mock interviews, targeted job search, connection with employer partners, connection with community resources, presenting veterans as pre-screened candidates to employers and job related supportive service, i.e. interview attire, gas cards, work related clothes or tools.
