Today, U.S. Rep. Tony Cárdenas (D-San Fernando Valley) introduced bipartisan legislation to name the U.S. Postal Service facility in Van Nuys after actress Marilyn Monroe, who attended nearby Van Nuys High School in the 1940s.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Rep. Tony Cárdenas (D-San Fernando Valley) introduced bipartisan legislation to name the U.S. Postal Service facility in Van Nuys after actress Marilyn Monroe, who attended nearby Van Nuys High School in the 1940s.
Monroe, born Norma Jeane Mortenson, referred to the time during which she lived in Van Nuys as the happiest in her life. Living with her aunt in the Valley provided the stability she needed to grow as a young adult into a world-renowned actress.
“The Marilyn Monroe Post Office will become a source of pride to our community,” said Cárdenas. “It will be particularly inspirational for the students of Van Nuys High School, who will have a constant reminder of the heights they can reach if they apply themselves. Marilyn Monroe defied the odds, rising from humble beginnings in Southern California to become a star.”
Cárdenas was joined in introducing this legislation by California Reps. Schiff, Sherman, McKeon, Thompson, Matsui, McNerney, Swalwell, Costa, Eshoo, Lofgren, Farr, Ruiz, Takano, Sanchez, Peters, Roybal-Allard, Waters and Lowenthal.
The Van Nuys Neighborhood Council recently unanimously approved the proposal to name the new post office in Van Nuys after Marilyn Monroe.
