VAN NUYS, CA — Every two years the Van Nuys Neighborhood Council holds elections for leadership posts and chairmanships for the council committees.  This past Wednesday night, Council President George Christopher Thomas won a second term as President in a landslide with 17 aye votes and 0 nay votes.

“It has been one of the greatest joys of my life to serve as Council President for the past two years, and to be reelected by my council colleagues is an affirmation that I am addressing the work that needs to be done.  It is my hope and determination to excel in serving the people of Van Nuys and the greater Los Angeles region throughout my final term as Council President,” said Thomas.

“As the largest council in the San Fernando Valley, and the second largest in all of Los Angeles, we have made it our concern to address regional issues that have an effect on all of our lives in Southern California.  In the next couple of months, we are having a City-wide Immigration Summit, we are hosting a Heath Fair with LA City Councilwoman Nury Martinez, and are continuing our ‘Speaker Series’ to bring those in power at City Hall closer to the constituents and stakeholders who attend our council meetings,” said Thomas.

“Many of the issues facing the people of Van Nuys are also those that affect the community of Los Angeles as a whole.  In needing to discuss these issues, our council has and will continue to reach out to community leaders, public officials and the top experts in their fields to join with us in forums, formal presentations, summits and debates to promote the betterment of our community and neighborhoods,” said Thomas.

“I look forward to serving as Council President for the next two years, and will use my final term as an opportunity to continue encouraging local government to be more responsive to the needs of the people we represent.  I am extremely grateful for the trust the councilmembers put in me, and will faithfully execute the office of Council President to the best of my ability,” said George Christopher Thomas.

Newspaper Publisher & Community Activist George Christopher Thomas was elected Van Nuys Neighborhood Council President in September of 2012, and won reelection this past Wednesday night for another two year term.   Thomas worked as a Congressional Staffer for the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997-2001.  Thomas is also the direct descendant of two signers of the Declaration of Independence, as well as two U.S. Presidents.
