MONTEREY, CA — Portola Hotel & Spa is proud to announce that they have committed to two more years of 100% carbon offsets. The Silver LEED® EB Certified hotel has been purchasing renewable energy for the past several years and is dedicated to continuing to ensure an unparalleled experience for guests as well as a safe, green, clean environment for guests and staff. Portola Hotel & Spa is one of only four hotels in the state of California to achieve the Silver LEED® EB Certification.
Furthermore, Portola Hotel & Spa has found a local partner in The Offset Project. The Offset Project has developed a program called “the Monterey Bay Fund” – a program that redirects proceeds from the sale of renewable energy credits and offsets into new local renewable energy projects. By purchasing renewable energy locally, the hotel will help support the schools and businesses of the Monterey community. The first school selected to benefit from this program is Bonny Doon Elementary School near Santa Cruz.
The Hotel’s support will provide important educational opportunities for local students, create new green jobs and economic development for the community, and help local schools and non-profit organizations gain the benefits of money saving renewable energy installations.
