~ The modern version of Mother’s Day in the United States, was first observed in 1907.

~ 55 percent of 15- to 44-year-olds are mothers.

~ 4.3 million women have babies each year. Of this number, about 450,000 are teens, and more than 100,000 are age 40 or over.

~ Tuesday is the most popular day of the week on which to have a baby.

~ The earliest celebration honoring mothers dates back to the annual spring festival of ancient Greece dedicated to Rhea, the Mother of the Gods.

~ In the former Yugoslavia, on the second Sunday before Christmas, children creep in and tie their mother’s feet to a chair, shouting ‘Mother’s Day, Mother’s Day, what will you pay to get away?’ Surprisingly, she then gives them presents!

~ In the UK, Mother’s day is celebrated on the 4th Sunday in Lent, but in other countries around the world, it is celebrated at different times.

~ Mother’s Day is known as Muttertag, La Festa della Mamma, Mothering Sunday, Fête des Mères and Día de las Madres.
