This 1800 sq. ft. hacienda-style suite was adorned with décor embracing the theme ‘Spices of Spain’ with warm and sensual tones reminiscent of melted butter, hand-tossed tortillas, rich salsa and Mexican chocolate.

The hotel outfitted the main living space with new furniture, including a Spanish-style study desk, solid wood plank-style table, two custom-made sofas with scroll arms, estate-quality large scrolled metal chandeliers and a leather-wrapped freestanding bar and chocolate leather chairs. The entrance to the suite is flanked by handcrafted hacienda estate doors made of solid wood.

At the helm of the hotel’s re-imagining is hospitality management firm, R.A. Rauch and Associates (RAR), which was awarded the contract to manage the property in January 2011.

“El Cordova has a paramount place in Coronado’s history,” said Robert Rauch, principal RAR. “Now it’s our job to build a new history for this property, while enhancing the experience for Coronado residents and visitors.”

RAR also upgraded the historic hotel with modern luxuries and necessities,  such as iPod docking stations, flat-screen TV’s, key-card entry for added guest security, AutoClerk reservation system for online bookings, and a Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therapy amenity set in all the rooms.

Rauch brought in 14-year hospitality pro, Mica Jackson, as El Cordova’s general manager in March 2011. With former stints as director of operations at the Holiday Inn San Diego Downtown and front office manager at the Holiday Inn Express Old Town, Jackson is poised to lead El Cordova into a new era.

“I see the hotel truly progressing into the 21st-century now, “ Jackson said. “However, even with all of these updates, we want to keep the unique ambience and feeling of El Cordova,” Jackson said.

“I don’t want to ignore the history of the hotel. “

Along with contemporary accents to the property, Rauch and Jackson agreed to move the hotel into the social media scene with a regularly updated Facebook page and Twitter feed, plus prompt responses to TripAdvisor reviews.
