Plastic bags have serious consequences for the environment. That’s why a bill was introduced into the Oregon legislature that would ban plastic bags and require consumers to either bring a reusable bag or pay 5 cents for a paper bag. But plastic bag manufacturers are waging a misinformation campaign to stop the ban. The plastic industry is falsely claiming that plastic bags are not a threat to the environment, even though ample evidence points to the contrary. They’ve even sued ChicoBag, a reusable-bag manufacturer, to end the company’s advertising that suggests reusable bags are better for the environment. Urge the Oregon legislature to support the environment, not corporate interests.
