DC Rib Joints

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Anyone who has watched an episode of House of Cards has at some point asked themselves, Where would the real Frank Underwood get BBQ in DC? On the show, Frank enjoys scrumptious ribs at Freddy’s BBQ joint (which does not exist at all! The actual filming location isn’t even in DC; it’s in Baltimore!) Determined, we went on a mission to track down the best BBQ spots in DC. Here are our top picks:

Kenny’s BBQ Smokehouse
732 Maryland Ave NE
When President Obama was spotted eating here it was solidified that this is a legit BBQ spot. This no frills BBQ outpost is known for their reasonable prices (about $8 per person) and outstanding BBQ chicken.

Smoke & Barrel
2471 18th Street NW
Do you like the concept of BBQ, but are a vegan at heart? Then Smoke & Barrel is for you! Tucked away in hip Adams Morgan, Smoke & Barrel offers everything from vegan wings to jalapeno grits and sweet potato donuts. They have a host of meat options as well, enjoy pulled pork, brisket and BBQ chicken.

Hill Country BBQ
410 Seventh Street NW
Hill Country BBQ has been a staple in the D.C. BBQ scene for years. On Monday’s don’t miss their special night where for $27 you can enjoy unlimited BBQ and Sides! They offer Texas BBQ so fasten your seatbelts for authentic hickory flavor. Don’t miss their pop-up restaurant on the National Building Museum’s West Lawn Thursday to Saturday from 4-9 p.m. (until September 1)
