Van Nuys, CA — An example of the renaissance going on at the Van Nuys Government Center is the new Civic Child Development Center. Sponsored by the County of Los Angeles and Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, the resource center was dedicated on January 2, 2006.
Last January the Van Nuys Civic Child Development Center (VNCCDC) celebrated its first anniversary marking a year of successful operation, offering area employees a convenient, high-quality option for child care close to work and home. The VNCCDC cares for children from six weeks to five years of age, regardless of income. Depending on their financial circumstances, families may qualify for subsidized or even fully covered child care services based on income and need.

Yaroslavsky saw the need for high quality affordable child care and funded the design and construction of the child care center. Studies have shown that a high quality child care program prepares children for school by increasing their chances to succeed. Children who receive the attention and support are more likely to be more successful in school and life that those that do not go to pre-school.
The Van Nuys Civic Child Development Center is run by the Child Care Resource Center staff, and they are dedicated to quality, support, development and education. The center is the first newly constructed child care center to be built from the ground up by the County of Los Angeles. The center features spacious classrooms with natural lighting and amble room for children to learn. They also have age appropriate secure outdoor space where children can play and interact with the other children.
Center Parent Kristi Kennelly had this to say about the wonderful staff at the center. “The child care providers at the VNCCDC truly take in the unique and delicate needs of working parents. The young, energetic and passionate staff create a nurturing and stimulating environment that is solidly based in learning through play and developmental philosophies.”
The Child Care Resource Center (CCRC) has been assisting local communities, employers, child care providers and parents in all matters related to early childhood and development for over 30 years.
The CCRC currently serves more than 15,000 children and families each month in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys. Enrollment is limited in order to provide maximum attention and to curb overcrowding in the classroom. The City and County of Los Angeles are financially supporting the facility, and therefore provide priority enrollment to County and City employees.
The Van Nuys Civic Child Development Center is open Monday through Friday from 6:30AM – 6:00PM and is subject to the County of Los Angeles holiday schedule.
