The closure of the I-405 between the U.S. 101 and the I-10 will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, July 15th, and end at 6 a.m. Monday, July 18th.
On Friday, July 15, ramps along the 10 mile closure will begin to be shut down as early as 7 p.m., and closure of freeway lanes will begin at 10 p.m. to ensure full freeway closure by midnight. The closure will continue until 5 a.m. Monday morning, July 18. Ramps and connectors will be reopened by 6 a.m.
Keep in mind that just because the 405 is shutting down for 53 hours, Los Angeles does not have to be paralyzed! Consider the following options for the weekend of the 405 closure…

The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau is lending a hand, or, rather, 405 tweets. Starting yesterday, Sunday July 10 (at 4:05 PM of course!), the bureau began tweeting out recommendations of 405 things to do around town during the stay-clear-of-that-freeway weekend. Iconic activities will be suggested, as well as some offbeat activities for Angelenos. Public transportation suggestions and $4.05-themed deals will be part of the mix. While “The Big Parade,” has already passed for 2011, it has done Angelenos a great service in mapping out the public stairwells and walkways of yesterday in the North-East LA area. With 111 public stairways that cover 42 miles on foot and gain more than 10,000 feet of elevation, “The Big Parade” website chronicles L.A.’s little-known network of staircases and showcases the Southland’s amazing urban landscape. While most of these spread throughout Los Feliz, Silverlake, Echo Park and Mt. Washington, people from all over can get to these locations and avoid the closure for a day or two! Carmageddon Walk to the Mulholland Bridge
In keeping with the WalkLA theme, check out the “Carmageddon Walk to the Mulholland Bridge (and back!)” organized by Bob Inman and Dan Koepple, another Big Parade collaborator. Pedestrian enthusiasts will delight in walking along the Sepulveda Pass to get a glimpse of ghostly emptiness on the country’s largest motorway. In honor of the closing of the 405, join this group in a walk along the thoroughfare in an attempt to get to the Mulholland Bridge and back. Who needs a car?
DineLA! VICA and then Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber present STAY LOCAL Deals
The Valley Industry and Commerce Association partners with the Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber, the Woodland Hills-Tarzana Chamber, and Councilman Paul Koretz’s office to compile a list of businesses that will offer discounts to local shoppers and diners.
