WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Tony Cárdenas (CA-29) released the following statement today in response to a whistleblower complaint detailing severe abuses, including mass hysterectomies, at an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement detention center:
“These allegations are shocking, and anyone involved will be held accountable and must be punished to the full extent of the law. These women were violated and forced to undergo hysterectomies at an ICE detention center without consent or proper medical care. This is truly horrific and disgusting and is one of the most horrendous human rights violations by an American administration in modern history. This is not something I ever imagined would happen in the United States. We will investigate and everyone culpable will be met with the full force of our justice system and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
