Throughout the month of September, the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region, in partnership with numerous disaster agencies, will offer the public a variety of disaster educational events and activities to help Los Angeles residents become prepared for such disasters as earthquakes, floods, wildfires and home fires.  By encouraging people to create an emergency plan and preparedness toolkit, the Red Cross aims to keep people safe and informed.

This month, the Red Cross will put a unique emphasis on home fires as they are the most common emergency families face in Los Angeles.

“As part of National Preparedness Month, we encourage people to be ready for emergencies and develop emergency plans for various disasters. We will be offering free educational events across Los Angeles to help inform people on how to keep themselves and their families safe when a disaster strikes,” said Jarrett Barrios, CEO of the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region. “As home fires occur on a daily basis here in our region, we urge residents to check their smoke alarms, develop a fire escape plan and practice it with everyone in their household.”
