Numerous news outlets reported that while walking away from the court through the Van Nuys Government Center, James Rainford, described by witnesses as “some weirdo,” allegedly threw water in Waits’ face and made a grab for his neck. one of Hilton’s bodyguards subdued Rainford, who was arrested and taken into custody soon after the incident. According to TMZ, Rainford pleaded no contest to civil assault and was sentenced to three years of probation last fall for sneaking onto Hilton’s property and getting into a scuffle with her private security.
