VAN NUYS, CA – The Van Nuys News Press, a local weekly newspaper in the San Fernando Valley, has joined forces with the Shoreline Half Marathon, 5k & 10k on July 14th, 2013 to promote health, wellness and fitness.  Over the past four years, the Shoreline Half Marathon in Ventura has donated over $12,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation Tri County’s “Team in Training,” the Simi Valley Days Foundation, the Loving Hearts Hospice Foundation, the Moorpark Soccer Club and Calvary Church.

Elite Sports, the sponsor of the event was founded in April 2008 with the idea of producing high quality sporting events throughout Ventura County. All of the races are fund raisers for local charity organizations. The race courses are designed to be appealing to athletes of all levels of fitness so they come back year after year.

“There are several great opportunities to participate in this year’s race, from running in it to volunteering.  The nice thing about the Shoreline Half Marathon in Ventura is they also have a 5k and 10k, so it can suit whatever length of race you would like to enter.  I look forward to working with Bill Escobar and Elite Sports in promoting this fine event,” said George Christopher Thomas, Newspaper Publisher & Media Sponsor of the Shoreline Half Marathon.

“All great events have one thing in common, great volunteers. This event is no different and we can really use your help to make this year’s event one of the best. As a volunteer you will receive several tokens of our appreciation for all your hard work and dedication to this event. Thanks in advance for volunteering! You are going to have a great time! If you are under 18 years old and want to volunteer please make sure you have a parent or guardian sign the Volunteer Consent Form. To volunteer you can register on line or e-mail me directly at bill@EliteSportsCA.com,” said Bill Escobar of Elite Sports.

The Start & Finish line will be at Ventura Promenade park along the beautiful Ocean front boardwalk at Ventura Beach.  Runners will enjoy the two loop ocean front course that winds along the Ventura Ocean front boardwalk and up along the gentle sloping Visa Del Mar ridge with incredible views that make every step worth the effort.  There will also be aid stations every 1.5 miles.  For more information, please visit www.shorelinehalf.com.
