San Francisco has prided itself on being open minded and letting people live and practice their beliefs without interference from local government.  The latest attempt by a few to force their beliefs on the majority is just plain wrong.  In addition, the measure makes it a punishable crime to circumcise infants because of religious beliefs.

The measure states, “No account shall be taken of the effect on the person on whom the operation is to be performed of any belief on the part of that or any other person that the operation is required as a matter of custom or ritual.” It further states that anyone doing a circumcision shall be punished by a $1,000 fine jail time.

If these people, who call themselves “inactivists”, feel that their parents violated their rights by performing the operation without their consent they should sue their parents. After all, the City and State did not force them or their parents to perform the operation.

Ballots that are forcing the rest of the population to bend to the will of a few supposedly aggrieved people AND is against the U.S. constitution should not be allowed on the ballot.  The City and State should not be forced to spend money fighting this type of measure.  The initiative process was meant to circumvent the inaction and poor judgment that our elected “leaders” use in Sacramento. It was NOT meant to force the will of a few people supposedly aggrieved by their parents on the rest of the population.
