Oxnard has seven miles of coastline and several unique beaches all with different features and elements to appeal to a wide variety of visitors.
For families looking for options to keep kids entertained, Oxnard Beach Park is a great spot for recreation and family fun! The beach has barbecues, a large grassy park with palm trees, picnic tables and walking paths leading to the dunes to the back of the beach where benches line the shoreline.
Surfs up at Silver Strand Beach, great for surfing, fishing and kayaking. Commonly known as “The Strand”, Silver Strand is also a great place to picnic while letting the kids splash around in the ocean. On the south side of the beach sits La Jenell Park, whose name comes from the ship called “La Jenelle” that sank in 1970 at the entrance to the Port of Hueneme Harbor. It’s fun to explore a bit of history while cooling off at Silver Strand.
Known for its connection to the Hollywood elite, Hollywood Beach gained notoriety in the 1920’s when several famous movie stars played & stayed at this beautiful beach. Among those were Rudolph Valentino who filmed “The Sheik” and Clark Gable and Carol Lombard who once had a home there as well. Visitors now find it a great spot to relax with its huge, sandy expanse and uncrowded beach.
For those who love birdwatching, Ormond Beach makes for a perfect spot to catch more than 200 species including the Western Snowy Plover and the endangered California Least Turn. The birding area features trails that follow a canal and the restored wetlands. Another place to cool off, Ormond Beach has a remote feel and is a great place to walk and enjoy the ocean breezes.
Kids have their own special beach in Oxnard! Located just inside the Channel Islands Harbor, Kiddie Beach Park is a safe swimming area for children with a small, sandy beach protected from the waves. Just north of Kiddie Beach sits Hobie Beach, providing opportunities to launch kayaks, SUPs and other hand-carried watercrafts.
In addition to their beauty, Oxnard’s beaches, and Ventura County beaches as a whole, received high rankings for water quality as one of the best in California according to a recent report conducted by nonprofit, Heal the Bay. Silver Strand, in particular, earned the highest grade of A-plus for its summer, winter and wet weather water.
