Washington, D.C. – Today, the House Judiciary Committee introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump for Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress after he pressured Ukraine to help his re-election campaign and obstructed Congress’ exercise of its constitutional powers. In response to this announcement, Congressman Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) released the following statement:
RepGomez1
“President Abraham Lincoln once said, ‘Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power.’ President Donald Trump has failed this test. He’s failed our country by putting himself before the American people, by breaking the law and violating the Constitution, and disgracing the office he was elected to. As a member of Congress, I am determined to hold to account anyone – regardless of party or politics – who sets fire to the very institutions that define our nation and our values. It is with this in mind that I will vote to impeach Donald Trump and help restore the dignity he robbed from the office of the President of the United States.”
