save it from closure due to ongoing State budget cuts. Association President stated, “When we heard the local kids call Los Encinos, the ‘duck pond park,’ we thought, wow, then we need to find a SpokesDuck to let people know the duck pond needs saving.” He continued, “The idea is similar to what the Forest Service created with Smokey the Bear. Smokey is about Forest Fires. SpokesDuck is about keeping our State Parks open to the animals and kids.”

The contest took flight Saturday, May 26th via the website www.SaveOurDuckPond. com and is open to children up to ages 13. With their parents’ permission they are invited to go the website to download daily entry forms to “Draw and Name the Los Encinos Park SpokesDuck.” From the entries, a panel of prominent judges will select the semifinalists, after which the community will vote for their favorites. Contest rules and any event updates will be listed on www.SaveOurDuckPond.com. The contest runs through June 22nd, and the winners will be announced with awards and prizes on June 24th on the grounds of Los Encinos State Historic Park.
