Project includes a 6.7 mile-at-grade alignment that will operate in the center of Van Nuys Boulevard from the Metro G Line Van Nuys Station to San Fernando Road. Anticipated Opening: 2031

The East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Project utility relocation work continues with intermittent directional closures for approximately six months along Van Nuys Boulevard. The work will take place from Jan. 26 to June 22, 2026.

The detour will be in place to guide traffic around the closure during work hours, and Van Nuys Boulevard will be fully reopened during non-working hours. During each directional closure, the following side streets may be impacted with closures at Wyandotte Street, Valerio Street, Covello Street, Saticoy Street, and Keswick Street. Local motorists and residents are advised to anticipate traffic delays in the area at night and on weekends.

WHERE:
Van Nuys Boulevard between Sherman Way and Arminta Street.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • Van Nuys Boulevard will be closed in one direction at a time for northbound and southbound traffic. When one side is closed, the opposite side will remain open with lane restrictions.
  • Street parking will be temporarily removed along the west side of Van Nuys Boulevard to accommodate the work area during night and weekend construction work.

Traffic Detours:

  • Northbound Detour: Sherman Way to Woodman Avenue to Roscoe Boulevard and back to Van Nuys Boulevard.
  • Southbound Detour: Sherman Way to Sepulveda Boulevard to Roscoe Boulevard and back to Van Nuys Boulevard.
  • Flaggers will be provided at various locations to direct traffic and pedestrians if access is restricted to local businesses during work closure hours.
  • The Van Nuys Metrolink/Amtrak Station will remain open and accessible during construction as well as parking for passengers during these directional closures.

Bus Detours

  • Bus service will continue with temporary bus stop relocations and a detour for Metro Bus Lines 169, 233, 761, and LADOT Dash based on the hours of operation.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Access to emergency responders will be maintained.
  • Noise and dust control measures will be in place to minimize impacts.
