VAN NUYS, CA — The NAACP recently honored Van Nuys Neighborhood Councilman Herbert Thompson as the “Person Of The Month” — a very esteemed and prestigious honor to be
bestowed upon one of our great public servants. Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation’s oldest and largest civil rights organization. Its more than half-million members and supporters throughout the United States and the world are the premier advocates for civil rights in their communities, campaigning for equal opportunity and conducting voter mobilization.
From the ballot box to the classroom, the thousands of dedicated workers, organizers, leaders and members who make up the NAACP continue to fight for social justice for all Americans. The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.
