Van Nuys, CA — Van Nuys Airport Police officers had the privilege of participating in the “Dr. Seuss’ Read Across America” event. Held on Friday, March 2, 2012, at Lorne Street Elementary School in Northridge, this national event promotes and encourages reading for elementary school children. Van Nuys Airport Police Sergeants Les Daniels, Paul Dutton, and Officer Frank
Dominguez all took part in reading to first graders at Lorne Street Elementary School. Sgt. Dutton enjoyed his experience and said “The children were very excited and appreciative that everybody was there to read to them.” Sergeant Henry Acosta, who had participated in previous years, coordinated this year’s event to give other Van Nuys Airport Police officers an opportunity to share in this wonderful experience.
Approximately 40 public safety members from agencies including the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Valley Division, Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles School Police and Port Police, read a Dr. Seuss book of their choice to individual classes. Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine attended the event and expressed his gratitude to all the agencies present. Los Angeles Airport Police Division is the fourth largest law enforcement agency in Los Angeles County with more than 1,200 law enforcement, security and staff personnel. Airport Police is a division of Los Angeles World Airports, the city department that owns and operates three airports: Los Angeles International (LAX), LA/Ontario International (ONT) and Van Nuys (VNY) general aviation.
