NORTH SHORE, OAHU, HAWAII — Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu’s Fabled North Shore is home to 36 holes of sun-drenched ocean-side championship golf, and Matthew Hall, PGA director of golf at the resort, knows how to make each one rock. In addition to his 11 years of leadership at Turtle Bay, this award-winning golf pro is an accomplished DJ, spinning tunes at events across Oahu as (DJ) Baumer. Combine the two and you get a ‘Play List’ that is hand-selected for enhancing any golf game through improved rhythm, tempo and relaxation. It’s the next installation in Turtle Bay’s ongoing series of Insider’s Play Lists.
From hosting prestigious golf tours to ensuring that the resort’s Palmer Course is always in top condition, Hall’s Oahu golf knowledge is unsurpassed. His career highlights include serving as president of the Aloha Section PGA, qualifying for the PGA Tour’s 2001 Sony Open in Hawaii, co-hosting Hawaii’s No. 1 golf talk show (1420 Golf, which airs on Honolulu’s ESPN Radio affiliate), and being named the 2009 Aloha Section Golf Professional of the Year, among other honors. Originally from Connecticut, Hall is a 1997 graduate of the PGA Professional Golf Management program at New Mexico State University.
Hall is also part of the resort’s prestigious North Shore Guides Club, a way for guests to learn about the North Shore through the insider knowledge of an experienced team of select resort employees and friends, and serves on the board of the Turtle Bay Foundation, established in 2012 by the resort to enhance the North Shore community through charitable efforts.
Everything sounds better with music, and for me, golf is no exception,” said Hall, whose listening recommendations range from hip hop on the driving range to trance on the green. “At Turtle Bay we are seeing less formality when teeing it up. We want people to have fun on the course – whether it’s practicing on the range or out playing with friends, music helps lighten the atmosphere and creates additional camaraderie. Because you can be out on the course for a few hours, it is always fun to mix it up. I enjoy listening to everything from 80’s pop music, to nu-disco, to classic rock and house music.”
As the resort’s newest North Shore Luminary, Hall shares a golf Play List:
