Debuting at 7 p.m. this past Saturday, March 31, at the Plaza Hotel and Casino, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” features two veteran actresses in the lead role. Jacquelyn Holland-Wright and Kellie Wright will share the acting responsibilities for Miss Mona Stangley, the lead character who runs the brothel in “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.” The part was played by Dolly Parton in the 1982 major motion picture adaption of the Broadway musical. Hol l and-Wr ight is best known for her leading role as Donna Sheridan (the mom) in the Las Vegas production of the Broadway musical “Mamma Mia” since 2005. Her long list of credits includes singing in “Jubilee!” and with Wayne Newton in Las Vegas and on his USO Tour. Currently, she has been teaching acting and music at Kidville in Tivoli Village and with Drama Kids International.

The second actress, Wright, has also enjoyed a career in entertainment that has spanned the globe from Australia and Japan to the U.S., singing with bands, performing in production shows and working as a studio session singer. In Las Vegas, she has starred in “Bottoms Up” with Rip Taylor, played Mrs. Vitale in “Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding,” and was a featured singer in “Jubilee!” Based on the true story of the legendary Texas brothel known as the Chicken Ranch, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” chronicles how the town’s sheriff and regular patron of the brothel fight to keep the historical whorehouse open as a crusading dogooder television commentator seeks to close its doors. The full production show at the Plaza will take audience members on a trip through history while watching some of the sexiest girls in Las Vegas sing, dance and act.

“The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” debuted in the Plaza’s classic showroom this past Saturday, March 31, with live performances every evening at 7 p.m. Based on the book by Larry L. King and Peter Masterson, with music and lyrics by Carol Hall, the original Broadway production of “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” debuted in 1978. Directed by Peter Masterson and Tommy Tune, the Broadway show was nominated for seven Tony Awards®. “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” at the Plaza is produced locally by SFS Entertainment, LLC under the direction of William Freyd and Bob Sperling along with the artistic direction of Betty Sullivan-Cleary. The show is co-produced by Matthew Resler with Vegas Java Entertainment. Ticket prices start at $59.95 for general admission.
