Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Olympic Division involving Rampart Officers.
On November 5, 2026, at around 8:57 p.m., Rampart Patrol Division uniformed officers conducted a traffic stop at Rampart Boulevard and 3rd Street on a vehicle for numerous vehicle code violations. Prior to approaching the vehicle, the officers believed the suspect was attempting to arm himself and requested a backup. Multiple units responded and attempts were made to have the suspect exit his vehicle, however the suspect refused to comply. The suspect then fled from the officers in his vehicle and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. During the pursuit, a tire deflation device was deployed which caused the vehicle to become disabled on Berendo Street north of 1st Street.
Upon stopping his vehicle, the suspect exited through the driver’s door, produced a handgun and fired at the officers, resulting in an Officer Involved Shooting (OIS). The suspect was ultimately struck by gunfire, dropped the firearm and was taken into custody.
The officers immediately rendered medical aid to the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Dominic Cosio, and requested the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) to respond. LAFD transported Cosio to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries. Cosio is in stable condition and is in the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) medical jail ward.
Cosio was in possession of a Polymer 80 Ghost Gun which was recovered at scene and booked into evidence. Upon recovery, Cosio’s firearm was determined to have five live rounds in the magazine.
One officer was treated at a nearby hospital for an injury to his ankle that occurred during the incident. The injury was not caused by gunfire.c
No other officers or community members were struck by gunfire from the suspect or otherwise injured during this incident.
