MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA CANCELS FURLOUGHS FOR 4,100 CLERICAL EMPLOYEES
LOS ANGELES – Mayor Villaraigosa announced the suspension of all furloughs for the City’s 4,100 clerical employees, whose bargaining unit ratified a pension and healthcare reform agreement. AFSCME Local 3090 is the largest bargaining unit in the Coalition of City Unions.
The suspension of furloughs for all workers represented by the AFSCME Local 3090 will run for the life of the contract, which extends through June 2014. The pension and health care agreement calls for increased employee contributions to retiree healthcare plans, shifting negotiated pay raises to the end of the contract period, and a temporary suspension of cash overtime.
The agreement ratified by AFSCME Local 3090 calls for members to begin contributing 2 percent to their retiree healthcare effective May 22, 2011. That contribution increases to 4 percent at the beginning of the next fiscal year, on July 1, 2011.
