LOS ANGELES, CA — LA Metro is beginning work to restore Wilshire Boulevard in the Westwood area, marking a major milestone in its ongoing construction of the Metro D Line Subway Extension Project, which spans from Koreatown to Westwood.

The agency will use heavy equipment to remove over 700 concrete deck panels that provided motorists with a temporary road surface on Wilshire Boulevard at the future Westwood/UCLA subway station site for 10-12 consecutive weekends starting Friday night, Oct. 17.

The weekend-only operation will minimize impacts to regular weekday traffic. Eastbound Wilshire Boulevard will remain open at all times. Weekend motorists are advised to allow extra time when driving through this busy section of Westwood.

Once slabs have been removed, Metro’s contractor will fully restore Wilshire Boulevard to its normal condition, allowing for construction work to continue inside the station itself.

WHEN: Weekends, beginning Friday, Oct. 17 continuing through December.

DETOUR:

  • Traffic on westbound Wilshire will be redirected at Westwood Boulevard to Kinross Avenue or Ohio Avenue. Eastbound Wilshire will be reduced to two lanes.

PROJECT BACKGROUND:

The Metro D Line Subway Extension Project is Metro’s highest priority transit project now under construction. The new subway extension will travel nine miles between Koreatown and Westwood and include seven new underground stations in the Miracle Mile, Beverly Hills, Century City and Westwood.  When all three project sections are completed by 2027, riders will be able to travel directly from Westwood to Downtown Los Angeles in just 25 minutes, significantly improving transit options to and from the two biggest urban areas of Los Angeles County.
