The Hollywood Bowl schedule promises some exciting programs for the music lover this coming summer.

For the classical music fan that ventures forth on Tuesdays or Thursdays there will be some unforgettable moments.

Tuesday, July 10 Leonard Slatin opens the Bowl’s  regular concert season with Glinka’s Rusian and Ludmilla Overture, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto and concluding with Mussorgsky/Ravel’s Pictures at an Exhibition accompanied by a breathtaking fireworks display.   An all-Beethoven program conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas capped by Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 is the program for Tuesday July 31. On Thursday August 23 the concert goer will be entertained by the Los Angeles Philharmonic with Stephane Deneve, conductor and Jean-Yves Thibudet on the piano performing works by Saint-Saens, Debussy, Rvel and Berlioz in a memorble evening of French favorites.

On Friday and Saturday nights the Bowl weclomes artists John Williams in a concert of his music that has captured the imagination, beauty, and drama of the film; Gladys Knight performing her classic hits and songs from her new album, Before Me;  a concert staging of Rodger and Hammerstein’s beloved South Pacific, the Tchaikovsky Spectacular.  Concluding the regular season will be a salute to the famed Cocoanut Grove at the Ambassdor Hotel by the 14-member band Pink Martini.

Jazz enthusiasts will welcome Queen Latifah as she makes her Bowl debut on Wednesday, July 11 in an evening of jazz, pop, blues and a little R&B.   Nancy Wilson will celebrate her 70th birthday along with Regina Carter, Kurt Elling and some friends and colleagues from the jazz world on Wednesday August 29.  Jazz artist Dave Brubeck will bring his jazz hits and standards to the Bowl on Wednesday August 22.

On July 25 watch the clips from movies that have featured jazz scores and artists such as Ellington and Basie.

The Bowl Season opens with Placido Domingo and John Mauceri being conducted into Hollywood Bowl’s Hall of Fame.     It will be an unforgettable evening opening night celebration with a special package which will include a cocktail reception, dinner,  and a generous contribution  to Music Matters, the Los Angeles Philharmonic education programs.

Don’t forget the July 4th Spectacular on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, July 2nd, 3rd and 4th.

This year the Bowl celebrates the West, honors the American cowboy and two of our most celebrated movie stars known for their work in westerns-John Wayne and Gene Autry.  The famed singing group Riders in the Sky will headline plus several special guests will join the group onstage.

It promises to be an unforgettable summer.
