Speaker Bob Hertzberg, Senate Bid for Hertzberg

SACRAMENTO, CA — Senate Majority Leader Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) released the following statement today regarding the emergency decision approved by the Judicial Council to temporarily set the statewide bail schedule at $0 for most misdemeanors;

Sacramento, CA
Sacramento, CA

“In these extraordinary times, every branch of government must consider even more carefully how to protect public health and safety, while also safeguarding the rights of Californians. I strongly support Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye and the Council for their emergency action last week eliminating bail for most misdemeanors. Their efforts will reduce the risk of infection for front-line police officers and deputies working in overcrowded jails while continuing to keep in custody those who might pose a threat to public safety.”
