CARSON, Calif. — Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson) issued the following statement today as fighting came to an end, Israel welcomed back all living Israeli citizens from captivity, and many Palestinians returned to Gaza:

“For two years, families across the Middle East and beyond have been anxiously awaiting a day such as today,” said Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson). “With the return of Israelis held captive by Hamas, the prisoner swap for Palestinian detainees, and the Sharm el-Sheikh ceasefire agreement, I am grateful that many of those prayers have been answered. In Scripture we read: Blessed are the peacemakers – because those who bring peace will be called children of God. I applaud the courage that it took to reach today’s agreement.”

“My constituents in Los Angeles County watch today’s news hoping the violence that began with the October 7 attack in Southern Israel and led to this terrible war will permanently reach an end. For that to happen, it is vital that people across the world, including Israelis and Palestinians who desire a future in coexistence, begin the dialogue and sacrifice necessary to change the narrative of this conflict. Rebuilding the destroyed communities of Gaza, aiding those refugees still suffering from this conflict, and ultimately ensuring Israel’s security living side-by-side with its neighbors will help everyone: the Palestinian people, the former hostages who begin to rebuild their lives, and all of humanity.”
