LOS ANGELES (June 13, 2026) – The Granada Hills Pool renovation project culminated with a successful grand re-opening celebration taking place on June 13, 2026 to officially open the pool to the Granada Hills community. The event marked the return of the popular community gathering space that preserves the pool’s long-standing role as a hub for recreation, health, and family engagement.

Just in time for summer, some of the pool upgrades include:

  • A brand new mural from artist Bodeck Luna called “Aerial Plunge,” an illustrative mural depicting an array of native wildlife and sea creatures with a silhouette of the San Fernando Valley in the background.

  • A new 3,100 square-foot splash pad.

  • Demolition of the previous pool and construction of a new 9,000 square-foot, year round/heated pool.

  • New pathways in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

  • Renovation of the existing bathhouse including ADA restrooms, men’s and women’s showers and changing areas

“Today marks an important milestone for Granada Hills and for every resident who has been waiting to see this pool reopened,” said John Lee, Councilmember for the Twelfth District. “The Granada Hills Pool has long been a valued public asset, and its return reflects the importance of investing in the neighborhood facilities that make our communities stronger. I am proud to celebrate this reopening and to welcome families back to a place that has meant so much to Granada Hills for generations.”

“In partnership with our colleagues across the City, we are proud to celebrate the grand re-opening of the Granada Hills Pool, a modernized and inviting space that honors its history as a pillar of the community,” said Jimmy Kim, General Manager of the City’s Department of Recreation and Parks. “A staple of this neighborhood since 1975, the pool has long served as a vital center for family recreation, private lessons, and public swimming programs. We are thrilled to invite residents back to this refreshed and vibrant facility, designed for the enjoyment of the entire community.”

“The Bureau of Engineering is proud to work with our partners to deliver this important and beloved community amenity,” said Steven Fierce, Senior Architect with BOE. “This project not only brings back this beautiful pool, but it is also now able to meet the expanded needs of the community that helped us design it. With your help, the entire facility is safer, ADA-friendly, energy-efficient and better adapted for use by the future generations of children and adults who will enjoy it.”

Councilmember John Lee and General Manager Jimmy Kim make a splash to officially open the Granada Hills Pool to the community.

The Granada Hills Pool was originally built in 1975, but sustained damage in the 1994 Northridge earthquake and has undergone ongoing maintenance and renovation since that time. After a period of limited operations due to leakage issues in 2016-2017 and later closed in 2023 for renovations, the current project supports enhanced public health, safety and equitable access to high-quality park facilities for the Granada Hills residents and surrounding communities.
