Los Angeles: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes Division are announcing the arrest of a suspect in connection with an assault with a deadly weapon involving a flare gun that sparked a brush fire in Woodland Hills.

On April 20, 2026, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a brush fire in the 23000 block of Del Valle Street, reportedly started by a person discharging a flare gun. Officers from Topanga Division responded and identified the suspect as 43-year-old Roy Azimi, a Los Angeles resident. A crime report was completed and forwarded to LAPD’s Major Crimes Division.

Major Crimes Division detectives determined that Azimi intentionally fired multiple flare rounds during a neighborhood dispute. One flare ignited vegetation near the victim’s home, sparking a brush fire.

On May 21, 2026, Azimi was in the city of Rosemead and arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Recklessly Causing a Fire, booking number 7243423.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and filed two felony charges: 245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon and 452(c) PC – Recklessly Causing a Fire.
