Tree Planting In Valley Village

VALLEY VILLAGE, CA — The Neighborhood Council Valley Village Board along with Paul Krekorian, Bureau of Sanitation and Los Angeles Conservation Corps kicked off a month-long effort to plant 137 trees along Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Magnolia Boulevard and Riverside Drive. The effort is the result of a one-year partnership with the City of Los Angeles supported by government grants and businesses throughout Valley Village.  The Valley Village Vision Committee chaired by Board member Sandy Hubbard and Jim Britten of Brittany Floor Covering are coordinating the project.

At a press conference held yesterday during the planting of the first three trees, city dignitaries joined Ginny Hatfield, Vice President of NCVV and Board members Suzanne Lewis, Sandy Hubbard and Paulette Stokes along with Valley Village business owners to mark the initiation of this unprecedented effort. The four varieties of trees — London Plane, Pink Trumpet, Golden Rain and Purple Plum —  will be placed along Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Magnolia Boulevard and Whitsett Avenue.

“These trees will greatly enhance our quality of life, but planting them is just the beginning,” said Tony Braswell, President of NCVV. “As a community we have to care for these trees until they can stand strong on their own – and we are grateful to our friends who will step in and help us nurture these trees over the next two years.”

Local businesses who participated in the event and agreed to help care for the new trees include Leo’s Jewelry & Watch Repair, Jerry’s Tailor Shop, Gregory’s Tux Shop, Pa Kua Health and Martial Arts, Studio Village Dental Care, Sabi Beauty Salon and Alex’s Liquor Store.  A total of 137 trees will be planted by year’s end.  If you would like to “adopt” and water a tree please call at 818-759-8204.
