Simi Valley, Calif. (Sept. 10, 2025) — WM, formerly Waste Management, opened its new Simi Valley Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) Facility, marked with a ceremony today. The event celebrated the company’s first landfill gas-to-RNG facility located in California, which can provide a lower-emission energy source to help power surrounding communities.

More than $100 million has been invested by WM to construct the Simi Valley RNG Facility, which is expected to generate approximately 2.2 million MMBtu per year of RNG. This anticipated RNG production has the potential to avoid up to 100,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually – the equivalent of removing an estimated 2,000 trucks from the road or powering approximately 65,000 homes. The 30,000-square-foot plant is one of the largest RNG facilities in the WM portfolio. The facility will capture landfill gas from WM’s Simi Valley Landfill and process it into pipeline quality renewable natural gas. The new facility is part of WM’s plan to invest more than $1.6 billion in 20 new RNG facilities across North America from 2022 through 2026.
