Washington, D.C. – The Congressional Tri-Caucus, composed of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), and the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), condemned the escalating abuse of power evidenced in the actions of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) immigration enforcement agencies and called on President Trump to fire DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.
In a letter to Trump co-signed by 105 members of the House of Representatives, the leaders of the Tri-Caucus — CHC Chair Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), CAPAC Chair Rep. Grace Meng (NY-06), and CBC Chair Rep. Yvette Clarke (NY-09) — made six common-sense immigration enforcement demands:
1. Fire DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.
2. An immediate suspension of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota.
3. Suspend abusive ICE and CBP practices nationwide and a full independent investigation into all recent use-of-force incidents.
4. A comprehensive investigation by the DHS Office of Inspector General into ICE and CBP conduct, including use of force, evidence handling, and interference with state and local criminal investigations.
5. Mandatory and timely cooperation with state and local law enforcement in all cases involving injury or death caused by federal agents, including full preservation and disclosure of evidence.
6. Clear, enforceable limits on ICE and CBP operations to prohibit warrantless home entries, indiscriminate street encounters, and enforcement actions lacking probable cause.
