SACRAMENTO—State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond is scheduled to celebrate published California State Student Authors with remarks from National Writing Project Executive Director Tanya Baker and award-winning author Sandra Cisneros on Monday, April 6, from 10:15 a.m. to noon. The event will be held at the California Department of Education (CDE) headquarters at 1430 N Street, Sacramento, CA 95814.

“I am proud to honor these exemplary young writers as California State Student Authors and to uplift their work as great examples for their peers,” said Superintendent Thurmond. “Literacy has the power to open doors and transform our students’ lives. That’s why I am proud of our work to move the needle on literacy and support every child to unlock the power of the written word. This celebration of our California State Student Authors complements ongoing literacy efforts that include our work with educators, researchers, and content and literacy experts to develop resources that support great literacy instruction across our state.”
