San Diego’s Premier Golf Destination Honors Milestone Anniversary with Special Arnold Palmer Tribute

CARLSBAD, CA — Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa  – home to one of the most esteemed golf courses in San Diego – is proud to celebrate Aviara Golf Club’s 25th anniversary this month, marking a major milestone and honoring years of unparalleled, world-class golfing experiences since 1991. Home to the LPGA Kia Classic Tournament and recently named by Golf Magazine as a 2016-2017 Premier Golf Resort as well as named one of the top resort golf courses in America by Golf Digest, and the #1 golf resort in San Diego by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Park Hyatt Aviara Resort continues to be the ultimate golf destination for locals and travelers alike.

Designed by legendary golfer Arnold Palmer, Aviara Golf’s notable coastal layout proves to be one of the more difficult courses in the Southern California area – a par 72 stretching 7,007 yards, the course is uniquely sculpted through rolling hillsides, with picturesque lakes and native wildflowers as the backdrop. In honor of the 25th anniversary, the club will be dedicating a bridge on hole #3 to Arnold Palmer during an exclusive event on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, along with a brief ceremony and a declaration from Mr. Palmer being read by Director of Golf, Renny Brown.

“We are thrilled to be celebrating a quarter century of exceptional golf and unforgettable memories made at Aviara Golf Club,” says Renny Brown. “We look forward to honoring the legendary Arnold Palmer next month, as we have him to thank for this incredible course that has brought so many wonderful experiences to so many people over the last 25 years.”

In honor of this historic milestone, Aviara Golf is revealing Arnold Palmer’s original insider tips and tricks for playing the challenging Aviara Golf Course when it was first debuted in 1991. Members and golf enthusiasts alike can find these tips throughout the remainder of the 25th anniversary year on www.aviara.park.hyatt.com/en/hotel/golf.html.

Hole #5 – Players should avoid the large fairway bunker on the right. This long uphill par 5 can play very long if an iron second shot is required from the bunker. An approach shot to the green from the left side is ideal.
Hole #7 – On this downhill short par 4, it is tempting to hit driver down the left side and go for the green, but laying up for a full wedge shot will avoid a delicate short pitch.
Hole #8 – This medium length, downhill par 5 is very reachable in two shots, but water and bunkers at the green demand accuracy. The fairway short of the water has a right-to-left slope; so if you lay up, play to the right side of the fairway. Players should lay back enough to give themselves a full shot over the water to the green.
Hole #14 – This hole is downhill and will play 1-2 clubs shorter. The Green is very wide, so players should make sure to take enough club to get over the water feature.
Hole #16 – There is a steep slope in the left side of the landing area on this hole. A tee shot hit at the tree aiming point will give players an additional roll. Players should make sure they have the correct yardage to the pin – the green is very long and visually judging the distance can be deceptive.
Hole #18 – This fairway is wide – players should aim their tee shot towards the fairway bunkers and away from the lake. The shot to the green is visually exciting – a medium to short iron should produce a good par.

Also celebrating a quarter century milestone this year is the elegant Argyle Steakhouse, located at the Aviara Golf Club overlooking the 18th green. In honor of the anniversary, the steakhouse has introduced an exclusive Steak Knife Concierge Program where an expert concierge will guide guests through Argyle’s impressive knife selection, explaining the appropriate use of each knife and helping guests choose the most desirable one for their particular entrée selection. With a variety of six different knives offered, guests will have the opportunity to test each knife to find the right one for them and their entrée of choice.
