WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) issued the following statement after Donald Trump signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Iran, ceding a victory to the Iranian regime after starting a war that raised gas, grocery, and energy prices on Americans.

“This MOU represents a complete U.S. surrender and leaves Iran in a better strategic position than when Trump started this ill-conceived war. This is not the deal Trump promised. In fact, it is not a “deal” at all. It simply reopens the Strait that was open before the war, lifts sanctions on Iran, and hands the regime $300 billion.

“After sparking a regional war, threatening to destroy an entire country, spending tens of billions of taxpayer dollars, damaging our economy, and sending Americans into harm’s way, Trump’s big breakthrough is an agreement that is weaker than President Obama’s 2015 deal that Trump ripped up.”
