Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/La Cienega, Wilshire/Fairfax to Close for 10 Days to Improve Reliability

WHAT: Three Metro D Line Stations – Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax and Wilshire/La Cienega will be temporarily closed for 10 days, starting Friday, Oct. 23, to allow for electrical infrastructure maintenance work at the Wilshire/La Brea station that will enhance reliability. To ensure riders can continue to travel to work, doctor’s appointments and other events, Metro will run special bus bridges between the Wilshire/Western station and the three closed stations every 10 minutes. Metro will also continue its normal bus service on Bus Lines 20 and 720 from the D Line Wilshire/Western station that runs along Wilshire Blvd.

For specific route and schedule information, download the new LA Metro Official App, visit metro.net, or call 323.GO-METRO (323.466.3876).

During the closure, all regularly scheduled station activations at the Wilshire/Fairfax Station will continue as planned, including the Tuesday farmers market, Bake to the Future on Oct. 25 and the LATINAfest at Metro: Dia de los Muertos on Halloween. Activities at the Wilshire/La Brea Station will be temporarily cancelled during the closure and will resume once the station reopens.

WHY: Metro identified the need for this work before the opening of the three new D Line stations in May and began planning the maintenance update to minimize any disruptions. Because securing the necessary parts had a long lead time, Metro put temporary measures in place to allow the opening. This short-term closure allows for permanent repairs to be made, ensuring a more resilient system.

Opening the three stations as planned on May 8, rather than delaying them while awaiting the parts, meant riders have benefited from improved connectivity five months earlier than waiting until Metro completed working with its contractor to address the resiliency issue.

WHEN:    Friday, Oct. 23 starting at 2 a.m. through Monday, Nov. 2 at 4 a.m.
