Metro will break ground on the 12.4-mile Vermont Transit Corridor Bus Rapid Transit (Vermont BRT) Project. The Vermont BRT will transform Los Angeles County’s busiest bus corridor, stretching from Hollywood to South Los Angeles, into a high-capacity transit line. The project is scheduled to be completed before the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and will improve bus on-time performance and reliability along the corridor.

Backed by a $149.9 million Small Starts grant from the Federal Transit Administration, the project will add dedicated bus lanes, off-board fare payments and construct 26 modern stations to cut travel times by up to 24%. With direct links to four major Metro Rail lines (B, C, D, and E), the system will better serve a densely populated, transit-dependent community. The daily ridership is projected to surge from 38,000 to over 66,200 by 2045, making Vermont Avenue the nation’s busiest BRT corridor.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) is building the most ambitious transportation infrastructure program in the United States and is working to greatly improve mobility. Metro is the lead planner, funder, builder, and operating agency for public transportation in L.A. County and carries nearly 1 million boardings daily on a fleet of 2,200 low-emission buses and six rail lines. The latest customer experience survey, fielded in July 2026, showed that customer satisfaction with Metro has risen to 87%.
