LOS ANGELES — The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, in partnership with Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez (District 7), hosted a grand re-opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony today, Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate the completion of the new playground replacement project at Kagel Canyon Park.
The event was held at Kagel Canyon Park, located at 11435 Kagel Canyon Street, Lake View Terrace, CA 91342 and featured children’s activities, music, community resource booths and more.
The approximately $500,000 project, funded through the Department’s allocation for playground improvements and repairs, replaces the nearly 30-year-old playground structure which no longer met current safety and ADA accessibility standards.
Designed for children ages 2 to 5, the modern play area includes swings, slides, interactive play components, a balance beam, rubberized safety surfacing, and a protective shade canopy. The project also introduces a new concrete walkway through the park along with an upgraded hydration station.
“Upgrading Kagel Canyon Park’s playground after nearly 30 years is a huge win for Lake View Terrace families,” said Councilmember Monica Rodriguez. “As the new Chair of the City Council’s Arts, Parks & City Facilities Committee, I look forward to continuing this momentum by upgrading our park infrastructure and activating high-quality green spaces citywide”
