Like all the other splendid amenities of the Resort, the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus signature Hualālai Golf Course has been crafted with extreme sensitivity to the land. Winding over 7,100 yards, this carefully groomed course begins in a lush kipuka (oasis) and then flows across brilliant green fairways contoured against black lava. Finally, the course returns to the ocean, where the finishing holes capture the drama and the beauty of direct seaside golf. Golfers in search of the perfect blend of nature and challenge have found their niche at Hualālai Golf Course.
Set against an exhilarating natural backdrop, the 18- hole signature Jack Nicklaus course is the first in Hawai‘i to be designated a PGA TOUR facility and plays host to the annual PGA Champions Tour. This course is private (Four Seasons guests and Hualālai Resort homeowners only.) It is a par 72, with four tee locations at each hole. Breathtaking scenery greets golfers at every green and fairway. The course was designed to fully maximize the challenging landscape and awe-inspiring vistas, incorporating natural outcroppings and existing water features into the layout and overall design. Hole one, a 385-yard par four, plays directly at Hualālai volcano and borders a jet-black lava flow.
Later holes weave around lava formations, thread through deep bunkers and sand traps, play over ancient Hawaiian fishponds, and skirt the shoreline. Hole 17, Hualālai’s signature hole, is a challenging par three enveloped by the shoreline. When the ocean tide is high, this hole offers an additional challenge – the distraction of crashing blue surf. For guests interested in further refining their technique, a 320-yard practice area and driving range are available. Facilities include 30 hitting stations, three target greens, a practice putting green and sand bunker, and a short game practice area. A 14,000 square foot golf clubhouse is adjacent to the course offering guests a relaxing place to rest and recharge. Separate locker rooms and shower facilities for men and women are conveniently located there along with a pro shop cart, and bag storage areas.
For late afternoon refreshment, The Hualālai Grille overlooks the 18th green. Private lessons — Our team of pros teach all levels – from beginners to those wanting to brush up on aspects of their game, long or short. Individual, small group and family lessons are available, tailored specifically to what you want to work on. On-course playing lessons are also available. Complimentary weekly clinics — Golf clinics are available twice a week for guests who would like to improve their skills in chipping, putting and sand elements of the game.
