SALT LAKE CITY, UT — Western River Expeditions invites thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike to experience the beauty of fall along Oregon’s renowned Rogue River. Normally, this trip runs as a “lodge to lodge” experience, but limited spots remain for three special autumn departures on the 2024 Rogue River Rafting & Camping 4-Day Adventure, running from Sept. 17-20, Oct. 2-5, and Oct. 7-10. Check availability.
This four-day, 40-mile Rogue River journey through class II-IV rapids offers travelers the chance to paddle, row or ride in style. Choose your vessel—inflatable kayak, paddle raft, or oar rig—as you navigate the scenic Rogue River with seasoned guides. The all-inclusive per-person rate of $1,540 covers everything from gear and cozy riverbank camping to daily gourmet meals, boat transfers, and professional guide services. Each trip accommodates up to 15 adventurers, with a meeting point in Merlin, Oregon.
Discover the Rogue River’s Untamed Beauty
Tucked between the lush, volcanic slopes of the Pacific Northwest, the Rogue River promises more than just rapids. It offers an immersion into one of America’s wildest ecosystems. Playful river otters, black bears and deer are regular sights along this congressionally designated Wild & Scenic River. As temperatures settle in the low 80s in September and low 70s in October, the river invites you to swim, relax and enjoy the tranquil scenery.
Take the Helm or Sit Back and Relax
Whether you’re seeking a hands-on adventure or prefer to kick back and take in the views, the Rogue has you covered:
- Oar-Rigs: 16-foot, self-bailing rafts piloted by expert guides, perfect for those who want to let the pros do the work.
- Paddle Rafts: Get in on the action! Help navigate the 14-foot raft while a guide provides direction from the rear. Great for teams of 4-6 paddlers.
- Inflatable Kayaks: Feeling independent? Paddle your own kayak through thrilling rapids. These nimble 11 to13-foot vessels are built for one or two adventurers.
Autumn Fishing Opportunities
In addition to the adrenaline-pumping rapids, the Rogue River offers world-class fly and spin fishing for Chinook Salmon, Steelhead and Cutthroat Trout. Fishing licenses can be purchased before departure in Merlin, or easily online at Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
What to Expect Each Day
Your day on the river is a perfect blend of rafting, scenic hikes and riverside relaxation. With the Rogue’s “pool and drop” river structure, you’ll alternate between tranquil stretches and exhilarating rapids, offering plenty of opportunities for side canyon explorations, swimming and taking in the surrounding wilderness. Each night, unwind at camp with hors d’oeuvres followed by a family-style dinner under the stars and stories around the campfire.
Explore Iconic Film Locations
Merlin, Oregon, your starting and ending point, is the Gateway to the Wild and Scenic Rogue River and home to Hellgate Canyon, a famous backdrop in the classic film Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid.
