THOUSAND OAKS, CA — Longtime Thousand Oaks resident, small business owner, and community leader Dan Weikel announced today that he is running for California State Assembly in District 42. With deep local roots and a passion for public service, Weikel is launching his campaign focused on restoring the California dream through common-sense, people-first leadership.

“The California dream needs to make sense again,” said Weikel. “Our families should be safe, our communities strong, and our residents should feel like they’re getting ahead, not falling further behind. It’s time for a back-to-basics approach that prioritizes public safety, economic opportunity, and real support for working Californians.”

Weikel’s campaign is centered on solving the state’s affordability crisis, reducing crime and homelessness, strengthening local infrastructure, and making California more business-friendly.

Weikel currently serves as a Traffic Commissioner for the City of Thousand Oaks and has held advisory roles in regional transportation. A graduate of Agoura High School, Moorpark College, and Pepperdine University, he’s a product of the very communities he now seeks to represent.

“Californians are facing a perfect storm from all sides at a moment when they need the most help,” said Weikel. “Our seniors, small business owners, and working families deserve more than apologies for what people are going through. Good government isn’t about playing politics—it’s about putting people first. We need strong leadership that can help them now, not later.”

Weikel is married to wife Alexis and together they have two daughters, 12 and 10 years old, who attend local schools.
