LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Assemblymember Mark González issued the following statement after ICE charged 28 people across California, alleging they illegally registered to vote. These charges have led to 11 arrests so far, including one in the City of Commerce.

“While the full facts are still coming in, we know that this federal administration has consistently shown its willingness to set aside due process and blow inconsequential issues out of proportion.

Time and time again, our election officials have shown us that California’s election process is safe and secure. The rhetoric that thousands of fake voters are swaying Californians’ elections is nothing short of a lie — a lie to scare off Latino voters and weaponize democracy weeks before the election.

Fear-mongering and political showboating are not enforcement, and they are pathetic attempts to persuade and mislead the public.”
