Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help with information and in identifying a driver involved in a hit-and-run traffic collision.
On August 30, 2026, around 9:58 p.m., a pedestrian was crossing Imperial Highway from the south curb toward the north curb, near the 1300 block of Imperial Highway. A vehicle only described as a light-colored SUV was traveling eastbound on Imperial Highway when it struck the pedestrian. The driver failed to stop, identify themselves, render aid, and fled the scene.
While the pedestrian was lying in the roadway after being struck by the light-colored SUV, a second vehicle traveling westbound on Imperial Highway struck and ran over the pedestrian. The driver of the second vehicle immediately pulled over, remained at the scene, and summoned emergency assistance. As a result of the collisions, the pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
South Traffic Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the collision or has information regarding the identity of the hit-and-run driver or vehicle to come forward.
Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.
The public is also reminded that as pedestrians, they should exercise caution when crossing streets, obey traffic lights, cross within marked crosswalks, and obey the rules of the road. On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
