1,500 Coins to Be Distributed to Guests with General Washington in Attendance
Mount Vernon, VA — George Washington’s Mount Vernon will host the United States Mint on Monday, March 23, 2026, for the official launch of the Revolutionary War Quarter featuring George Washington. This historic coin launch is part of the 2026 Semiquincentennial Circulating Coin Program commemorating 250 years of American independence.
Mount Vernon President & CEO Doug Bradburn will join United States Mint Director Paul Hollis to deliver remarks during the event. Mount Vernon’s beloved George Washington reenactor will be on hand to bring the image on the coin to life. Additionally, The United States Mint will distribute 1,500 of the new coins to Mount Vernon guests on Monday, while supplies last.
The event will also feature a display of the Washington President Gold Eagle Pattern Coin, an extraordinary piece of American numismatic history and the only gold coin ever made in this pattern. This coin by Jacob Perkins of Newburyport, Massachusetts, is one of some 20 surviving pattern coins featuring the first president’s portrait.
The event will take place at George Washington’s historic estate, where the nation’s first president lived before and after the Revolutionary War. The new quarter honors the courage and resilience of the Continental Army and features imagery tied directly to the founding era, including a depiction of a soldier at Valley Forge.
