Community, labor + democracy groups focused on defending elections until every vote is counted + celebrating the power of ordinary people who turned out in historic numbers despite onslaught of federal interference
LOS ANGELES, CA – On November 7, a broad coalition of community and labor groups, anchored by Love Powers LA, will bring together thousands of Angelenos from across the region at Gloria Molina Grand Park for a post-election concert and rally. The concert and rally will celebrate the victories of ordinary people over billionaire corruption and interference, and build momentum for all that is to come. The “We Beat the Lies” event will remind Angelenos that nothing, not even the richest men on earth with all their wealth and power can stop California.
For months Trump spread lies and confusion, created chaos, threatened to arrest election officials, and tried to use the power of the federal government to interfere and intimidate California voters. Billionaires poured millions to drown out Californians’ voices. This election, Californians beat Trump and his billionaire allies who tried to silence ordinary people.
“We voted in record numbers. Millions of voters in L.A., across the state and around the county filled out ballots at our kitchen tables, dropped it off on the way to work, or stood in line after a long shift. We’re ready to celebrate the power of ordinary people. We’re also ready to make sure they count every vote, certify the elections and honor the will of the voters,” said Yvonne Wheeler, President of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO
“Angelenos voted for their families and their communities, for health care they can count on, affordable rents, and lower prices at the pump and grocery store. By standing together, Angelenos sent a message that they won’t let this administration undermine our elections and we are ready to defend our votes,” said Alberto Retana, President and CEO of Community Coalition.
“This administration has done everything it can to stop California voters but Californians have shown we can’t be stopped,” said Diana Browne, with East Valley Indivisible. “We’re not backing down now. We’re standing together to make sure this corrupt federal administration respects our votes and to fight for what’s next.”
The concert and rally will also continue the momentum so that it doesn’t stop with this election. Love Powers LA and its member groups will fight for what they voted for and make sure elected leaders deliver: health care for all, a cost of living they can afford, and a government that works for ordinary people, not wealthy interests.”
Love Powers LA will make sure Angelenos keep the pressure on to certify the election and respect the votes, fight for what’s next, and will stay ready for any desperate attempts to stop the process.
