The leading progressive Councilmember continues to consolidate broad labor support and momentum heading into 2026.
LOS ANGELES — In a decisive show of confidence in her leadership and unwavering commitment to working families, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, has officially endorsed Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez for re-election in Los Angeles City Council District 1.
Hernandez earned overwhelming support from the Federation’s Committee on Political Education and Executive Board, and on Monday the House of Labor ratified the endorsement—bringing with it the collective strength of more than 300 affiliated unions and over 800,000 workers. This powerful affirmation comes as Hernandez continues to earn a broad slate of labor endorsements across Los Angeles, cementing her standing as one of the city’s strongest champions for working people.
“Eunisses Hernandez is the rare kind of leader who refuses to be bought or bullied, and who stands unapologetically with working people,” said Yvonne Wheeler, President of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor. “At a time when authoritarianism is rising, corporations are consolidating power, and our fundamental rights are under attack, we need leaders like her. That’s why the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor proudly endorses Eunisses Hernandez for re-election to Council District 1.”
“It is one of the greatest honors of my career to have earned the support of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor,” said Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez. “Labor is the backbone of the movement for racial, economic, and immigrant justice in this city. Workers are organizing, rising, and demanding a city that values people over profit, and I couldn’t be more proud to stand alongside them in this fight.”
Since taking office, Hernandez—widely recognized as the most progressive member of the Los Angeles City Council—has championed policies that strengthen labor protections, defend immigrant workers, expand tenants’ rights, and hold corporations accountable for wage theft and exploitation. Her leadership has helped shift the city toward a more just and equitable economy, making her a trusted partner to unions and working-class communities alike.
The LA County Federation of Labor’s endorsement adds major momentum to Hernandez’s broad and growing labor coalition, which now includes SEIU 721, SEIU 2015, SEIU-UHW, UTLA, NUHW, CIR-SEIU, LIUNA Local 300, Roofers Local 36, ILWU Local 13, UNITE HERE Local 11, IATSE Local B-192, UNAC/UHCP, Teamsters Joint Council 42, Engineers and Architects Association (EAA), and more. She is also backed by leaders at every level of government, including Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia; Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson; Councilmembers Ysabel Jurado, Hugo Soto-Martinez, Nithya Raman, and Heather Hutt; State Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas; Assemblymembers Alex Lee, Jessica Caloza, Sade Elhawary, and Tina McKinnor; County Supervisors Hilda Solis, Holly Mitchell, and Lindsey Horvath; LAUSD Board Members Nick Melvoin and Dr. Rocio Rivas; and local elected officials across Culver City, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood.
Since her historic election, Hernandez has been a driving force for progressive reform—delivering the strongest tenant protections in more than 40 years, expanding unarmed crisis response, securing $27 million in improvements for MacArthur Park, and co-authoring the Sanctuary City ordinance. As a member of the Budget and Finance Committee, she reshaped the $14 billion 2025–26 budget to prevent layoffs for over 1,000 city workers, scale back police recruitment, and safeguard critical services for low-income and immigrant communities.
Eunisses Hernandez is running for re-election in Los Angeles City Council District 1, where she continues to deliver bold, progressive solutions for working families across neighborhoods including Highland Park, Westlake, MacArthur Park, Mount Washington, Pico-Union, and Chinatown.
