Pasadena, CA — Award-winning Cuban composer Yalil Guerra announces the world premiere of his new string quartet, Noches de España, to be performed by the Hispano String Quartet during the Día de la Hispanidad concert at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Pasadena, CA, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 7:30 pm.
String Quartet No. 4 Noches de España marks Guerra’s first string quartet dedicated to Spain, the “Madre Patria” (Motherland) of nearly 500 million Spanish-speaking people worldwide. The composition is a heartfelt tribute that weaves together themes, colors, and rhythms rooted in Iberian tradition, offering audiences a vibrant musical journey through the spirit of Spain.
The evening’s program also features other remarkable premieres: the world premiere of Postales de Cuba by Giovanni Piacentini, and the U.S. premieres of Magnum by Tomás Peire Serrate, and String Quartet Op. 12 by Alejandro Román. Together, these works highlight the richness and diversity of contemporary Spanish and Latin American chamber music.
This premiere not only celebrates Hispanic heritage but also highlights the cultural ties uniting communities across continents through music. Guerra’s work embodies the richness of the Spanish legacy while opening new chapters in contemporary classical repertoire.
