Downloadable Videos now available from the LAPL Web site! Videos are the latest addition to LAPL’s expanding e-Media collection, which includes e-Books, Audiobooks and classical Music. This new service provides LAPL cardholders free, 24/7 access to nearly 350 Videos, including classic and feature films, IMAX movies, educational videos, travelogues, concerts and TV shows. Users can download the copy-protected Videos to their windows-based PC, notebook or portable media player. Please note that Videos are a high-speed only Internet product. A maximum of 10 e-Media titles may be checked out. They are automatically returned when the 21 day borrowing period is over. Videos are not available for downloading on library computers.
The Photo Collection of the Department of Water and Power is now available for searching through the library’s Regional History Resources.
LAPL’s audio Web page now includes downloadable classical music! This new service consists of a growing selection of titles published by Naxos, the world’s leading classical music label. Many of the titles are “Enhanced” with liner notes containing biographical, background and historical information about the composition. Cardholders can check out, download and listen to music via computer or laptop or transfer to many portable devices, including Windows Media-compatible MP3 players. At this time, music is not compatible with the Macintosh operating system or iPod player and cannot be burned to CD. Most titles are comprised of a one-part download, are about an hour in length and circulate for 21 days. A maximum of 5 audio titles (books and/or music) may be checked out. LAPL is pleased to announce a new service which allows cardholders to download Audiobooks from the Internet, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Listeners can choose from a selection of 400 titles in fiction, narrative nonfiction, business, biography, self-help, language instruction and more. New titles will be added on a continuous basis. Available titles range from recent bestsellers to classics. Users may listen to Audiobooks via computer or laptop; burn to CD for playing in the car or on stereo; or transfer to many portable devices. Audiobooks circulate for 21 days and will be available for free Internet downloading 24-hours a day through the Library’s website. A maximum of 5 titles may be checked out. LAPL is offering new e-mail services. You can be automatically notified by e-mail when your materials are overdue and when items you have reserved are ready for pick-up. These notices are in addition to the “courtesy e-mail notices” which are sent out four days prior to materials being due. Notices can also be sent out in Spanish.
